LACC is now using Cranium Café to provide chat services to students.

What is Live Chat?

Live Chat is a tool that enables students to communicate instantly with student services personnel. Live Chat is the fastest way a student can receive support at the moment. Read below for important information regarding set-up, technology and system requirements.

How to Prepare for ConexED Cranium Café Live Chat

  • Access to a computer, tablet or smartphone
  • Secure internet connection
  • Browser Requirement: Google Chrome or Firefox (Do not use Internet Explorer or Safari)
  • Treat a Live Chat session the same as if you were going to interact with an individual on campus

Technical Requirements
Operating Systems:

  • Windows 7 or higher
  • OS 10 or higher (iMac/MacBook 2009 or later)
  • Linux/Android Specs: any version of Linux that supports the latest Firefox or Chrome build

Mac OS and Windows Requirements:
Use the latest version of Chrome or Firefox (Do not use Safari)

Android and Windows Device Requirements:
Use the latest version of Chrome or Firefox (Do not use Internet Explorer)

ConexED Cranium Café Account Set-Up

Step 1: Log-in to your student portal (SIS) and select the “Online Counseling & Live Chat” tile. Then select "Online Counseling at LACC"

Step 2: Use the Canvas Login Icon (image on left hand side) and then click on Authorize

  • If you do not have an active Canvas account, you can request a Cranium account using "Guest Registration"
  • If you are a current or returning student, it is important you use your email.
  • You may also go directly to and use a valid email address to create an account.

Step 3: Once you have successfully logged in, you can use the student support directory to locate different student services personnel.

Step 4: If an individual is “online,” you will see a green circle indicating the person is available. To begin your chat, click on the box “LIVE CHAT” and a pop-up window will appear to start your session.


Cranium Café offers accessibility features for working with students with disabilities. If you use assistive technology, then it will be focused on the digital chat tool from Cranium Café, which will enable you to communicate with a wide variety of assistive technologies.
